After several years of holding it in the Vicente Escudero Hall of the school itself, which had a limited capacity for the public, the festival returned to the Auditori de Cornellà and achieved a full house. The José de la Vega School is recognized as the most emblematic and prestigious center in Barcelona for the teaching of flamenco dance, Spanish dance and complementary disciplines such as singing, guitar and castanets.

The article also highlights the history of the school, which was founded in 1975 by Maestro José de la Vega, a leading choreographer and major figure in the history of dance in Catalonia. Since then, the school has gained prestige and has trained numerous dancers who have joined important companies such as the Ballet Nacional de España and the companies of Cristina Hoyos, Antonio Gades and Manuela Vargas, among others.

Toni Moñiz, one of the school’s main teachers and co-director since 2012 has brought a new impetus and style to the institution. His achievements as a dancer and choreographer are described, as well as his contribution to the show “Rambla Abajo” of the group “Son de Tacón”.

As for the festival itself, more than 150 artists, including students, teachers and collaborators, participated in the more than a dozen choreographies presented. The show included various flamenco styles such as Soleá, Mariana, Alegrías, Tangos, Seguiriyas, Bulerías and Guajira, and featured live accompaniment by Toni Moñiz on palmas, David Pérez on vocals and José Manuel Saucedo on guitar.

The Flamenco Festival of the José de la Vega Flamenco School was a success both in artistic terms and in terms of attendance, presenting a varied and dazzling show that highlighted the quality of the school’s students and teachers.
