Next, dive into this flamenco dance style and learn more about its origins, history and how to dance it.<\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-el-origen-de-la-alegria-en-el-flamenco\">The Origin of Joy in Flamenco<\/h2>\n\n<p>La alegr\u00eda is one of the most festive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grangalaflamenco.com\/blog\/los-palos-del-flamenco\/\">flamenco palos<\/a>. It originated in the province of Cadiz and is considered <strong>one of the oldest genres<\/strong>. In addition, many consider it the most important style of flamenco dance.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Although its fundamental base is the so-called jotas, especially the Navarre-Aragonese, a <strong>genre that arrived in Cadiz during the French occupation<\/strong>, the alegr\u00eda is nourished by other styles such as the panaderos, the coplas romanceadas or the fandangos de Cadiz. As their <strong>origins come from the territories of Navarre and Aragon<\/strong>, it is normal that their lyrics allude to the <strong>Virgin of Pilar<\/strong>, the Ebro River and Navarre itself.  <\/p>\n\n<p>During the 19th century, the jotas began to acquire flamenco touches and to resemble the rhythms of the sole\u00e1. In addition, they also took<strong> on a much more dramatic tone<\/strong>. This stick evolved over the years until it was finally called alegr\u00eda. They called it that way because, when it was interpreted, it seemed like a &#8220;happy song&#8221;.  <\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-caracteristicas-de-la-alegria-flamenca\">Characteristics of flamenco joy<\/h2>\n\n<p>The alegr\u00eda as a flamenco dance has a series of very specific characteristics that differentiate it from other flamenco styles. The following are some of the most important elements<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cante-y-el-compas-de-las-alegrias\">Singing and the compass of alegr\u00edas<\/h3>\n\n<p>The alegr\u00edas have a <strong>comp\u00e1s base of 12 beats <\/strong>divided into four equal parts of three beats each, the same as the sole\u00e1s and buler\u00edas. The alegr\u00edas are much <strong>faster <\/strong>and this gives them a<strong> more festive touch<\/strong>. In addition, his cante is distinctive because it begins with the <strong>tiriti, tran, tran, tran, tran,<\/strong>an exit introduced by Ignacio Espelta and popularized by Manolo Vargas. Singers recognized for their interpretation of the cante de Alegr\u00eda include Peric\u00f3n de C\u00e1diz, El Flecha de C\u00e1diz, El Chato de la Isla, Fosforito, La Perla de C\u00e1diz, Chano Lobato, El Camar\u00f3n de la Isla and Juanito Villar.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ritmo-y-expresion\">Rhythm and expression<\/h3>\n\n<p>As we have already mentioned, alegr\u00edas, as its name suggests, is a very fast and lively flamenco dance. So the time is also usually fast and very <strong>energetic<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Being a very lively flamenco dance, <strong>expressions <\/strong>are also a very characteristic element. It is very emotional and <strong>invites a lot of improvisation<\/strong> and creativity from the dancer. The dancer can express this joy and enthusiasm with the fast and energetic movements mentioned above.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-vestuario-de-las-bailaoras\">Costumes of the dancers<\/h3>\n\n<p>The costumes are a very important aspect of the alegr\u00edas, as the dancers usually wear <strong>very flashy<\/strong>, ankle-length <strong>dresses<\/strong>. These are decorated with ruffles, ribbons and colorful lace. They are costumes that <strong>transmit the joy of the dancer<\/strong> and a lot of <strong>enthusiasm<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Sleeves can be long or short, depending on the dress, and <strong>can<\/strong> also <strong>be decorated with puffed or ruffled sle<\/strong>eves. In addition, the dancers usually also wear <strong>mantillas <\/strong>decorated with<strong> flower embroidery and long bangs<\/strong>. As accessories they usually wear <strong>flowers<\/strong>, <strong>combs<\/strong>, <strong>coral earrings<\/strong>, and of course, <strong>high heels<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-palmas\">Palmas<\/h3>\n\n<p>The palmas are another important element of the alegr\u00edas, as they <strong>mark the rhythm <\/strong>and beat of the music. These, like the dancing and the expressions, <strong>are usually fast and energetic <\/strong>following the rhythm of the music. The best known clapping pattern is called <strong>&#8220;palmas por alegr\u00eda&#8221; (clapping for joy)<\/strong> which is performed as follows:  <\/p>\n\n<p>In the first four beats the <strong>clapping <\/strong>is <strong>soft <\/strong>and firm, in the next four beats the <strong>clapping<\/strong> is soft and <strong>sonorous<\/strong>, and in the second and fourth beats the <strong>clapping<\/strong> is soft and <strong>sonorous<\/strong>.
